Germany's chancellor and president set off on parallel Asia trips

Chancellor Friedrich Merz departed on Monday for Singapore, Japan and South Korea, while President Frank-Walter Steinmeier left for a four-day state visit to China, in separate trips the German government says are not directly connected.
