President Rashad al-Alimi said on Sunday that government forces would begin operations to recover remaining Houthi-held territory, as the Houthis claimed strikes on Saudi Aramco sites and fighting tightened around Taiz.
Yemen’s internationally recognised president, Rashad al-Alimi, said in a televised address on Sunday that military operations would begin to retake remaining territory and extend state authority across the country, the BBC reported.
The announcement came as fighting continued around Taiz. AFP, citing three Yemeni military sources, said the Houthis had cut a supply route linking Taiz with Aden and now controlled that route, effectively encircling Taiz.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group launched a ballistic missile and drone attack on Aramco sites in Riyadh and at Khurais. The BBC published images of flames at an Aramco facility south of Riyadh on 3 October.
Saudi Arabia has faced repeated cross-border attacks as the Houthis target oil infrastructure. The recognised government and the Houthis offered competing accounts of control on the Taiz front.
The BBC described the speech as the start of an all-out effort to reclaim Houthi-held land. Independent confirmation of battlefield positions was limited to the military sources cited by AFP.
