The Coast Guard said a Gulfstream used as a medical transfer aircraft lost contact on a flight from Bermuda to Boston with six people on board, and crews were searching near Nantucket.

A private jet traveling from Bermuda to Boston with six people on board has gone missing, the U.S. Coast Guard said on Saturday. The Federal Aviation Administration notified the Coast Guard early Saturday that it had lost contact with the plane.

A Coast Guard spokesperson said by email that the aircraft was a Gulfstream jet used as a medical transfer aircraft. The service dispatched air and surface crews to search near Nantucket, south of mainland Massachusetts.

Reuters reported that weather conditions in Nantucket were clear as of Saturday morning, citing AccuWeather. No wreckage or survivor update was included in that report.

The search area is in the Atlantic approaches to New England, on a route used by flights between Bermuda and Boston. The Coast Guard did not, in the Reuters account, name the operator, the passengers or the crew.

The agency said the search was ongoing after the FAA lost contact. Further details depend on what air and surface crews find near Nantucket.
