Governor Andrei Vorobyov said two people were killed and homes damaged overnight. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Ukraine launched more than 650 drones toward the capital.
Ukrainian drones killed two people overnight in the Moscow region and set off a fire at a major fuel depot, Russian officials and military bloggers said on Tuesday. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Ukraine launched more than 650 drones toward the capital and that most were shot down.
Governor Andrei Vorobyov said 185 drones were destroyed or brought down over the surrounding region. He later put the injured at nine and said 47 private homes and four apartment buildings were damaged across seven municipalities. A 20-year-old man was killed in the village of Radumlya, and rescuers recovered the body of a 71-year-old man from a destroyed house in Barybino, the Moscow Times reported.
War blogger Yuri Podolyaka and the outlet Astra said a tank was hit at the Volodarskaya oil storage and distribution facility, the largest in the region and owned by Transneft. The Moscow Times said it could not independently verify the depot strike. Astra said the site had not previously been a Ukrainian target and supplies fuel toward Moscow's main airports.
Russia has recently intensified strikes on Kyiv, including bridges over the Dnipro, Reuters noted. No Ukrainian military statement confirming the Moscow-region strike was included in the accounts reviewed.
Vorobyov ordered local authorities to speed reconstruction. No casualty revision beyond the two deaths and nine injuries had been published by the outlets cited on Tuesday afternoon.
