Overnight Ukrainian drones killed two people in the Moscow region and, according to Russian war bloggers, struck the Volodarskaya oil depot, in one of the largest attacks of the war on the capital area.

Ukrainian drones killed two people overnight and hit a major fuel depot in one of the largest attacks of the war on Moscow and the surrounding region, Reuters reported, citing Russian officials and military bloggers.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Ukraine launched more than 650 drones toward the capital and that most were shot down. Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said 185 drones were destroyed or brought down over his region. Reuters quoted him as saying seven people were injured and that 47 houses, four apartments and three cars were damaged.

Vorobyov said the body of a 71-year-old man was pulled from the rubble of a house and that a 20-year-old man was killed in a nearby village. Meduza, citing the governor, later reported two dead and nine injured, and damage to 47 private homes in seven municipalities.

War blogger Yuri Podolyaka said an oil storage tank was hit at the Volodarskaya facility, described as the largest oil depot in the Moscow region and part of Transnefteprodukt. Local authorities had not confirmed the fire, Meduza reported, while monitoring channels circulated images of a blaze.

Russia has recently intensified strikes on Kyiv, including attacks on bridges across the Dnipro, Reuters noted. The Moscow-region strike followed Ukrainian claims about damage to Russian refining capacity, which Moscow has not confirmed in the same terms.
