The US Coast Guard suspended the search for a Latitude Air Ambulance jet that left Bermuda for Boston. The operator said the six people aboard are presumed dead after debris was found off Nantucket.

The US Coast Guard suspended the search for a medical transport jet and six people who left Bermuda for Boston early Saturday. Latitude Air Ambulance said late Sunday that the four crew members, the patient and a family escort are presumed dead.

The Gulfstream G-100, call sign Heartbeat 104, departed L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda just after 12:40 a.m. local time for Logan Airport. FlightAware data cited by CNN showed the aircraft at 24,000 feet for more than an hour before it dropped about 13,000 feet in two minutes. Debris was found about 20 miles off Nantucket. The people were not located.

The Boston Globe identified the Bermudian passengers as Marilyn Lavonne Bean, 66, and her son Sergio Wayne Lottimore, 41, names released by the Bermuda Police Service. The Coast Guard identified the Canadian crew as Philip Gregory Childerhose, Thomas Henry Farquhar, Sarah Jane Paton and Jolene Beth Weir. It was not stated which passenger was the patient.

Latitude, based in Hamilton, Ontario, has owned the aircraft since 2018, agency records cited by the Globe showed. Next of kin were notified.

The FAA had issued a search-and-rescue alert around 1:20 a.m. Saturday. No cause has been stated. The search phase is over; any wreckage recovery or investigation finding would be a later development.
