Russia hit Ukraine with missiles and drones on Wednesday in one of its most vile strikes, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said, killing at least 25 people, including children, and damaging industrial and energy sites, Reuters reported. He said 100 people were injured.
The heaviest toll was in Pryluky in the northern Chernihiv region, where a missile destroyed a five-storey residential building. Zelenskiy said 19 people died there, including five children. He also said civilians were killed in Kyiv and in Oleksandria and Kremenchuk.
Zelenskiy said Russia fired 70 missiles, many of them ballistic, and dozens of Shahed drones. Al Jazeera, citing Ukraine's air force, reported 130 drones and 48 cruise missiles plus ballistic missiles. Russia's defence ministry said the strike targeted military-industrial facilities.
Zelenskiy said Ukrainian forces hit four targets in Russia over 24 hours, including two oil facilities and a training ground in the Perm, Samara and Astrakhan regions. Casualty figures were still being updated through Wednesday.
