President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Russia fired 70 missiles and dozens of drones overnight, killing at least 25 people, including five children in a Pryluky apartment block. Energy sites were among the targets.
Russia hit Ukraine with missiles and drones overnight into Wednesday, killing at least 25 people, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said, according to Reuters. The heaviest toll was in Pryluky in the northern Chernihiv region, where a missile destroyed a five-storey residential building. Zelenskiy said 19 people died there, including five children.
He said 25 people were killed across the country and about 100 injured. Civilians were also killed in Kyiv and in the central cities of Oleksandria and Kremenchuk, Reuters reported from his comments. Industrial facilities and energy infrastructure were damaged.
Zelenskiy said Russia fired 70 missiles, many of them ballistic, and dozens of Shahed drones. In a Telegram post carried by Interfax-Ukraine, he called the energy sector a key target and said only part of the incoming weapons were intercepted. He said ballistic missiles remain the main air-defence problem.
Reuters said Zelenskiy reported that Ukrainian forces hit four targets in Russia over the previous 24 hours, including two oil facilities and a training ground in the Perm, Samara and Astrakhan regions. He said Ukraine would hit Russian energy assets in response to strikes on civilian infrastructure.
Emergency crews were still clearing the Pryluky building on Wednesday, Interfax-Ukraine reported in a related item. The figures above are from Zelenskiy's account as reported by Reuters, not an independent full casualty audit.
