Russia said on Saturday it would keep carrying out what it called targeted retaliatory strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, and urged foreign nationals and diplomats to leave the capital.

Russia said on Saturday that it would continue targeted retaliatory strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, Reuters reported. Moscow also urged foreign nationals and diplomats to leave the Ukrainian capital.

The statement followed days of attacks on infrastructure in and around Kyiv. Dawn reported earlier Saturday that the city's mayor said Russian strikes on key infrastructure were tearing Kyiv apart, in a separate account of the same campaign.

Reuters described the Russian position as a pledge to keep striking, framed by Moscow as retaliation. The report did not include a new casualty count from Saturday's statement.

The call for diplomats to leave is a step beyond routine security advice. Reuters said the appeal covered foreign nationals as well as diplomatic staff.

Ukraine has said it will answer strikes on its cities by hitting Russian refineries. A separate Reuters report on Saturday quoted President Volodymyr Zelenskiy making that point. The two statements describe opposing plans rather than a single new agreement.
