Yemen's transport ministry said Houthi missiles and drones hit Aden airport, with one missile landing near the runway minutes before a flight from Cairo was due. The IOM said displacement from the latest fighting has passed 200,000.
Yemen's Houthis attacked Aden's international airport with ballistic missiles and explosive drones on Wednesday, the country's transport ministry told Reuters. One missile landed near the runway minutes before a flight from Cairo was due to land. Aden is the main international gateway for areas outside Houthi control.
The fighting is a spillover of the wider US-Iran conflict and has revived a 12-year war, Reuters reported. Battles have focused on areas around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a route that has grown more important for energy exports since fighting restricted the Strait of Hormuz.
The International Organization for Migration said on Wednesday that the number of people displaced since the latest round of fighting began has risen above 200,000. The UN says three in four families are going hungry in parts of Yemen.
Saudi civil aviation authorities said one person was killed and eight wounded in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, and two were killed and 28 wounded at Abha airport. Those figures are from the Saudi statement cited by Reuters.
