The Commission said it disbursed 1.24 billion euros on Wednesday under the defence part of the 90 billion euro Ukraine Support Loan, for drones, interceptors, drone ammunition and missiles made in Ukraine.

The European Commission on Wednesday disbursed 1.24 billion euros under the defence component of the 90 billion euro Ukraine Support Loan. The EU delegation in Kyiv said the money covers drones, drone interceptors, drone ammunition and missiles manufactured by Ukrainian entities.

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Russia was continuing what she called a deliberate strategy of terror and that the payment would strengthen Ukraine's defence industry and its ability to protect people and infrastructure. Defence Commissioner Andrius Kubilius said every euro sent that day was turned into drones, interceptors and missiles, and that this was the fifth defence payment under the loan.

The loan is split indicatively into 60 billion euros for defence and 30 billion euros for budget support over 2026 and 2027. The Commission said 28.3 billion euros are planned for defence-industry disbursements in 2026, with further payments in the coming weeks. It also said the EU and member states have provided 228.7 billion euros in overall support since 2022, including 3.8 billion euros from proceeds of immobilised Russian assets.

For the rest of 2026 the Commission said 32.5 billion euros remain available, including 15.4 billion euros still to be disbursed for defence industry capacity under the loan and more than 17 billion euros in budget support, subject to conditions.

The item is the Wednesday payment. It does not change the legal basis of the loan, which the Commission traced to Regulation (EU) 2026/467.
