Saudi civil aviation authorities said one person was killed and eight wounded at King Khalid airport in Riyadh, and two were killed and 28 wounded at Abha airport. A Saudi-led coalition said it then struck more than 80 Houthi sites.

Three people were killed in attacks on Saudi airports, the kingdom's civil aviation authorities said on Wednesday, as fighting intensified between the Iran-aligned Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces in Yemen. Reuters reported the toll.

One person was killed and eight wounded at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. Two were killed and 28 wounded at Abha airport. The authority said one attack was on Wednesday and the other on Tuesday, without saying which was which. CNN, citing the same authority, said the Abha attack on Tuesday killed two women, one Moroccan and one Algerian, and that the Riyadh attack on Wednesday killed a Sudanese resident.

The Houthis claimed both Saudi airport attacks. A Saudi-led coalition said the strikes would not go unpunished and, late Wednesday, said it had hit more than 80 Houthi military sites in Saada, Hodeidah, Jawf and Marib.

Yemen's transport ministry said the Houthis also hit Aden airport with ballistic missiles and drones on Wednesday, and that one missile landed near the runway minutes before a flight from Cairo was due. The landing was diverted to Jeddah. The Houthis said they targeted Saudi military supplies at a camp near the airport.

The US mission in Saudi Arabia warned citizens of possible further drone and missile attacks. No ceasefire was announced with the casualty update.
