Samsung Electronics estimated third-quarter operating profit at 107.4 trillion won, up 782.5 percent from a year earlier, with revenue guidance of 195 trillion won.
Samsung Electronics said on Thursday that third-quarter operating profit is expected to reach 107.4 trillion won, about 79.8 billion dollars, Yonhap reported from Seoul. That is 782.5 percent above the same quarter a year earlier. The company put revenue guidance at 195 trillion won, up 126.6 percent. Net profit was not in the guidance.
Yonhap Infomax said the operating-profit estimate was 1.6 percent above the average market forecast. If the figures are confirmed, it would be a fourth straight quarter of record revenue and operating profit, and the first time a South Korean company has reported quarterly operating profit above 100 trillion won. Yonhap put the implied operating margin at 55.1 percent.
Samsung did not split the result by division. Yonhap said the device-solutions unit, which includes semiconductors, is believed to have driven the result as AI infrastructure spending kept memory tight and prices high. It said Samsung has begun mass production and shipments of sixth-generation high-bandwidth memory, HBM4, with a meaningful earnings contribution expected next year.
The same report said non-memory chip businesses, including system LSI and foundry, are believed to have remained in the red, with combined losses estimated around 1 trillion won, and that costs at the Texas fab weighed on those units. The device-experience division, covering phones and consumer electronics, was also estimated in the red for a second quarter as component costs rose.
The guidance is preliminary. Samsung said the final earnings report will come later this month. Industry observers cited by Yonhap expect the memory conditions to last at least through next year, a forecast rather than a company target.
