Intel chief Lip-Bu Tan told Bloomberg the chipmaker will stay involved in Elon Musk's Terafab project, after Musk said TSMC talks were only discussions.

Intel will continue to work with Elon Musk on his Terafab chipmaking project, Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday. Reuters said chief executive Lip-Bu Tan told Bloomberg of the continued involvement ahead of an event in Tokyo marking Intel's 50th year of operations in Japan.

Intel and Tesla did not immediately respond to Reuters outside regular business hours. The report is a statement of continued involvement, not a new contract value or construction schedule.

Last week Musk wrote on X that there were discussions over potential cooperation between TSMC and Terafab. Responding to a headline about TSMC exploring plans to work with the project, he wrote on Saturday: just discussions, but something may come of it.

Reuters noted that a TSMC role could challenge Intel's position as Musk weighs partners. No TSMC agreement was announced with Tan's comments.

The next factual marker is any filing or company statement naming terms, location or capacity for Terafab.
