The life-sciences company plans a lab that combines AI and robotics to design and test antibodies. It said the system could make molecule discovery eight times faster.

Danaher said on Wednesday it plans to launch its first AI-powered autonomous research lab early next year, with the site projected to operate at scale in early 2027, Reuters reported. The lab is meant to speed drug discovery and development.

The company said the lab will combine artificial intelligence, robotics and technologies from several Danaher operating companies in one workflow to develop custom antibodies and other molecular tools. It said the system is expected to make discovering molecules eight times faster and to produce a tenfold increase in target-binding molecules each year.

Chief science officer JC Gutierrez-Ramos said the approach frees scientists to focus on complex problems where human insight matters most. The lab uses AI to propose molecules that bind a biological target, then builds and tests each one and feeds results back into the model.

Danaher described the lab as part of a broader programme to create a fleet of smart instruments. The figures on speed and output are the company's projections, not independent trial results.

No location, capital cost or regulatory filing was included in the Reuters brief. The announcement is a plan, not a completed opening.
