Hyundai-owned Boston Dynamics said Rohit Prasad, formerly Amazon's senior vice president and head scientist for Alexa and artificial general intelligence, becomes chief executive on 7 October. He succeeds Robert Playter, who left in February.

Boston Dynamics said Rohit Prasad becomes chief executive on 7 October, taking over a robotics company owned by Hyundai Motor Group. Reuters reported the appointment from Seoul.

Prasad was senior vice president and head scientist for Alexa and artificial general intelligence at Amazon, where the company said he built Alexa and created the Amazon Nova foundation-model family. Boston Dynamics said he is also expected to join the board, subject to the relevant approval process.

He succeeds Robert Playter, who stepped down in February, Reuters reported. Prasad said in the company statement that Boston Dynamics is positioned to advance physical AI and that he was honored to join at a pivotal moment for the industry.

Hyundai said in January that it aims to build a factory capable of making 30,000 robot units a year by 2028, when it plans to start deploying them across its manufacturing sites, Reuters reported. The Wednesday announcement did not include a new production target.

The appointment is a leadership change, not a product launch. Boston Dynamics said Prasad will lead the next phase of physical-AI commercialization.
