Customers received an unauthorised ASOS HACKED notification on Tuesday. The retailer said some basic personal information may have been accessed and that it does not believe card data or passwords were affected.

Asos said it is investigating unauthorised activity on third-party platforms after customers received a notification from its app that the company said was sent by hackers. Dozens of people told the BBC they got an ASOS HACKED message on Tuesday morning.

The notification was addressed to the company's data protection officer and IT teams. Cybersecurity specialists told the BBC it looked like an extortion attempt. Asos acknowledged the unauthorised customer notification on Tuesday afternoon and said some basic personal information may have been accessed.

The company said it does not believe payment-card information or account passwords were affected, and that its site and app are operating as normal. It said it restricted access to the notification platforms and is working with internal and external specialists and relevant authorities.

Customers quoted by the BBC said they were worried that addresses, phone numbers or bank details could be exposed. Asos did not confirm that bank details were accessed.

No suspect was named in the BBC report. The company has not published a count of affected accounts.
