AMD plans to increase chip supply substantially in 2027 as it tries to meet demand tied to artificial intelligence, chief executive Lisa Su said on Tuesday in Taipei.
Su said the company had been able to raise supply through 2026 and would raise it further next year. One purpose of the Taiwan trip, she said, was to make sure the supply chain could ramp CPU and GPU production. She has met Foxconn and was due to meet TSMC.
Asked whether TSMC had discussed a possible investment in Texas with AMD, Su did not answer directly. She said AMD would need more advanced wafer capacity. There is very high demand for the next several years, she said, and the company is now planning three to five years ahead.
Reuters noted that AMD's market value had recently passed 1 trillion dollars in the AI rally and that it is Nvidia's closest rival in AI graphics processors. No new order volume, customer name or capital-spending figure was attached to the Taipei remarks.
The next dated step Su described is the TSMC meeting and the 2027 supply increase. No contract from that meeting had been announced.
