Devin Singletary scored on a 30-yard run in overtime to give the New York Giants a 27-21 win over the Houston Texans in J.J. McCarthy's first start for the team.

Devin Singletary ran for a 30-yard touchdown in overtime to defeat his former team and give the New York Giants a 27-21 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday in Houston.

Houston won the overtime toss but went three-and-out, and the Giants needed only two plays: Cam Skattebo broke a career-long 42-yard run to the Houston 30, and on the next snap Singletary broke through the left side for the winner, 2 minutes 35 seconds into overtime. The Texans had forced the extra period when Xavier Hutchinson caught a 3-yard touchdown on third down with 52 seconds left in regulation.

The win came in J.J. McCarthy's first start for the Giants after coach John Harbaugh benched Jameis Winston, and his fifth consecutive start overall. McCarthy completed 20 of 28 passes for 252 yards, Malik Nabers caught seven passes for 111 yards, and Skattebo rushed 17 times for 124 yards after having no carries the previous week. Singletary finished with 41 yards on five carries, while Winston scored on a 1-yard sneak and Tyrone Tracy scored before leaving with a hamstring injury.

NBC Sports and the Associated Press agree on the sequence, the score and the yardage, and on the shape of the game: New York outgained Houston 420 yards to 237 but missed field goals of 44 and 56 yards in the first half, while Houston's Ka'imi Fairbairn made kicks from 57 and 58 yards. C.J. Stroud completed 17 of 28 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns, a season low in yardage, and Tank Dell caught a 43-yard pass in his first game since December 2024.

The result moved the Giants to 4-2-1 and dropped the Texans to 2-5 and 0-4 at home, a record that leaves Houston's postseason hopes fading with half the season still to play. For New York, a debut-start win built on the run game and an overtime stop is momentum to carry into its bye week, with the question now whether McCarthy keeps the job when the Giants return.
