Donovan Mitchell hit a tiebreaking midrange jumper with 48 seconds left in overtime as the host Cleveland Cavaliers rallied from a 15-point deficit to defeat the previously unbeaten Minnesota Timberwolves 127-125 on Monday night.
Mitchell finished with 26 points and seven assists, while James Harden added 19 points and nine assists for Cleveland, which improved to 2-1. Evan Mobley contributed 18 points and 10 rebounds, and rookie Meleek Thomas scored 16 off the bench in his NBA debut.
Minnesota's Anthony Edwards missed a wide-open three-pointer with 3.9 seconds remaining that could have tied the game, then connected on a three at the buzzer to finish with a season-high 47 points. Jaden McDaniels had 14 points and Rudy Gobert collected 20 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who fell to 3-1.
The Field Level Media roundup and a separate game recap agree on the decisive sequence and the headline numbers: Mitchell's late jumper, the 127-125 final score, Edwards's 47 points and Cleveland's comeback from 15 down. The roundup also records that Peyton Watson grabbed the rebound after Edwards's missed three and made two free throws to push Cleveland's lead to 127-122 before the final buzzer.
The result ends Minnesota's unbeaten start and gives Cleveland an early-season win built on its backcourt. Mitchell's overtime shot was the difference in a game Cleveland had trailed by double digits at halftime, when Edwards had already scored 20 points. Elsewhere on Monday night, Golden State beat Denver 134-114 for its first win of the season, Milwaukee beat Indiana 110-102, and Dallas beat Miami 113-109 behind 29 points and 11 assists from Cooper Flagg.
