India beat Malaysia 5-1 in the Asian Games men's hockey final. Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored twice, and the gold books a place at the 2028 Olympics.
India beat Malaysia 5-1 on Saturday to retain the men's hockey gold at the Asian Games. Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored twice in the final.
The win is India's second consecutive men's Asian Games title, after Hangzhou in 2022, and the first time the men's team has defended the crown. India Today listed earlier men's golds in 1966, 1998, 2014 and 2022, making this the fifth.
The gold also books India a place at the 2028 Olympics. Malaysia took silver. Pakistan won bronze by beating South Korea 5-3 earlier on Saturday.
India's women had already won hockey gold at these Games. The men's result meant both national teams took gold at the same Asian Games, a first for Indian hockey, India Today reported.
The final closed India's main team-sport program in Nagoya. The next Olympic cycle is the stated focus after the continental title defense.
