Harmanpreet Kaur resigned on Tuesday as captain of India's women's team in Tests, ODIs and T20Is after leading the side to the 2025 ODI World Cup and a second Asian Games gold.

Harmanpreet Kaur stepped down on Tuesday as captain of the India women's cricket team in all three international formats. She announced the decision in an Instagram post. ESPNcricinfo reported she is 37 and has captained India in five Tests, 51 ODIs and 155 T20Is.

Her last match as national captain was on 22 September, when India beat Sri Lanka to retain Asian Games gold in Nisshin. She had led India to a first global title at the 2025 women's ODI World Cup. In July, India won a one-off Test against England at Lord's under her captaincy. The team exited the T20 World Cup in the group stage earlier this year.

The announcement followed a meeting on Monday in Guwahati with vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, head coach Amol Muzumdar and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia. BBC Sport reported Mandhana is expected to take over, with Zimbabwe due in India for three T20s and three ODIs from 16 October.

In her post, Harmanpreet said she was leaving the captaincy with a heart full of emotions but also with peace, because she believed the team was in a good place. She said she was ready to play for the love of the game again. ESPNcricinfo reported she is still expected to captain Mumbai Indians in the Women's Premier League.

The BCCI had not named a successor in the reports available on Tuesday morning.
