Harmanpreet Kaur resigned the India women's captaincy across Tests, ODIs and T20Is on Tuesday after leading the side to its first ODI World Cup title.
Harmanpreet Kaur, 37, said on Tuesday she was stepping down as captain of the India women's team in Tests, one-day internationals and T20 internationals. She announced the decision in an Instagram post.
ESPNcricinfo reported she captained India in five Tests, 51 ODIs and 155 T20Is. Her side won the 2025 ODI World Cup, India's first women's global title, and she last captained in the Asian Games final against Sri Lanka in Nisshin on 22 September.
The announcement followed a meeting in Guwahati a day earlier with vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, head coach Amol Muzumdar and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia. BBC Sport reported Mandhana is expected to take over, with Zimbabwe due for three T20s and three ODIs from 16 October.
In the post quoted by ESPNcricinfo, Harmanpreet said she was leaving the captaincy with a heart full of emotions but also with peace, and that she believed the team was in a good place. She said she was ready to play for the love of the game again.
India exited the group stage of the most recent T20 World Cup, a result BBC Sport noted alongside the World Cup and Asian Games titles. The board had not named a successor in the reports available on Tuesday morning.
