The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games ended on Sunday with China topping the gold table for a 12th straight Games and Japan second.

The 20th Asian Games closed in Nagoya on Sunday after two weeks of competition. Global Times, citing Xinhua, said China finished first in the gold-medal table for a 12th consecutive Games, with 169 gold, 89 silver and 83 bronze medals, its largest haul at an overseas Asian Games.

Japan was second with 83 gold, 95 silver and 91 bronze. South Korea was third with 39 gold, 43 silver and 68 bronze, Xinhua reported. Indian sports site Khel Now listed India fourth with 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze, 85 medals in all, short of its Hangzhou total.

Thai sprinter Puripol Boonson and Chinese swimmer Yu Zidi were named the men's and women's most valuable players, Global Times reported. The same closing is one event; national medal totals are results of that Games rather than separate news events.

Host logistics drew criticism during the Games, but the closing itself went ahead in Nagoya on 4 October. Athletes from across Asia were departing after the ceremony.
