The Aichi-Nagoya Games ended Sunday after a troubled fortnight. China finished first with 169 golds and host Japan second with 83, while India placed fourth on 85 medals.

The Asian Games in Japan closed on Sunday after two weeks marked by record performances, rain, thin crowds and complaints about organisation.

The Olympic Council of Asia argued that viewership, revenue and a run of world records showed the event had succeeded, Dawn reported. The closing was held in Nagoya. Japan then handed hosting duties toward Doha, which will stage the 2030 Games.

China topped the medal table with 169 gold medals, its 12th straight Asian Games lead, and Dawn reported Japan second with 83 golds. AsiaToday, citing the final table, reported China on 341 medals in all, Japan on 269 including 83 gold, 95 silver and 91 bronze, South Korea on 150 with 39 gold, and India fourth on 85 medals, 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze.

India sent 495 athletes across 36 disciplines, AsiaToday reported. Trap shooter Neeru Dhanda, a double gold medallist, carried the Indian flag at the closing. Both Indian cricket teams won gold. Archery produced five Indian golds.

Chinese swimmer Yu Zidi, 13, won three golds in Games-record times, including the 200 metre butterfly and the 200 and 400 metre individual medleys, Dawn reported.
