Prosecutors charged Mohmed Abdulkarim and Nouman Essghir with national security offences following the September incident at the US-used airbase, with one accused of assisting Iranian intelligence.

British prosecutors charged two men on Tuesday under the National Security Act in connection with the September 27 security incident at RAF Fairford, the Gloucestershire base used by US B-1 bombers.

Mohmed Ahmad Abdulkarim, 24, was charged with assisting a foreign intelligence service, which police believe to be Iran. Nouman Essghir, also 24, was charged with entering a prohibited place for a purpose prejudicial to the UK on August 22. Both are due at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

The charges follow arrests near the base after suspicious vans were reported; no explosives were found, but petrol was seized. A third man rearrested last week was released without charge.

BBC, Reuters and CNN confirm the charges, the names, ages, specific offences and the Iran attribution from Counter Terrorism Policing.

The development marks the first formal charges in a case that has drawn scrutiny over Iran-linked activity against UK infrastructure hosting US forces.
