Trump says the US will not strike Iran before the November midterms

President Donald Trump posted that Washington would not attack Iran before the 3 November midterms and described talks with Tehran as productive. The blockade, he said, stays in place.

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United States would not attack Iran before the 3 November midterm elections. In a Truth Social post reported by Reuters, he wrote that Washington and Tehran were having productive discussions about ending a war that began in February.

The pledge is a change in stated timing, not an end to the conflict. Trump said the blockade would remain in force. The Washington Examiner quoted him saying oil was still moving through the Strait of Hormuz and that Iran would not have a nuclear weapon. Reuters said he rejected Tehran’s latest offer.

Iranian state media, cited by Reuters, reported the same day that Tehran would not abandon uranium enrichment or hand over its uranium stockpile. That account was attributed to the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization. Vice President JD Vance had told Reuters days earlier that Iran must make meaningful cuts in enrichment capacity.

The statement landed after Axios reported that the Pentagon had told US Central Command to finish preparations for renewed major combat operations, without a date. Reuters noted the war has weighed on Trump’s approval and on Republican hopes of holding narrow majorities in November.

Neither Reuters nor Bloomberg reported a signed ceasefire, a date for further talks, or a change in the blockade. The new fact is the public bar on strikes before the election.
