President Donald Trump said Thursday the United States will not attack Iran before the 3 November midterms and described talks with Tehran as productive.

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United States will not attack Iran before the 3 November midterm elections and that talks with Tehran are productive, Reuters reported. He posted on Truth Social: "We are having productive discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran. We will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the midterm elections."

The war began in February when the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, Reuters reported. It has weighed on Trump's approval ratings and on Republican efforts to hold narrow congressional majorities. Just Security's Friday briefing said Trump made the no-attack comment on Thursday even as US officials told the New York Times that the military is still preparing options to restart major combat operations.

Iran's state media reported Thursday that Tehran would not abandon uranium enrichment or hand over its stockpile, citing the head of the Atomic Energy Organization, Reuters said. That came days after Vice President JD Vance told Reuters Iran must make meaningful reductions in enrichment capacity. Reuters also reported that Trump had rejected Tehran's latest offer.

The statement sets a political timetable. It is not a ceasefire text and does not describe a blockade or sanctions change. Just Security noted that a US blockade remained in place in other Friday reporting.

No joint statement with Tehran was published in the Reuters account.
