Swiss President Guy Parmelin began a three-day state visit to India on Monday at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. ET Now reported that the two leaders met at Hyderabad House in New Delhi for talks on trade, investment, science, technology, innovation and mobility.
The visit coincides with the first anniversary of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement entering into force. Parmelin said he was glad the stay would mark that anniversary, ET Now reported. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called on Parmelin before the main meeting and wrote that he appreciated the president's commitment to the partnership.
RNA reported a ceremonial welcome, a wreath-laying at Rajghat and the Hyderabad House talks. It said this was Parmelin's first formal state visit to India and his second trip this year, after the AI Impact Summit in February.
Switzerland is India's largest trade and investment partner among the four EFTA countries, RNA reported. Parmelin's programme includes the second India-EFTA Prosperity Summit on 7 October.
No new tariff schedule or investment total was published from Monday's meeting in the reports reviewed. Officials said the talks were meant to carry forward cooperation under the existing agreement.
