President Droupadi Murmu received Guy Parmelin, president of the Swiss Confederation, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 5 October 2026 and hosted a banquet in his honour, India's Press Information Bureau said.
Murmu described India-Switzerland ties as warm and based on democracy and the rule of law, and called Switzerland an important trade and investment partner. She pointed to the India-European Free Trade Association Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement as opening further scope for trade and investment.
The presidency said Swiss companies already work in Indian infrastructure, including roads, railway bridges and tunnels, and could look at clean technology and artificial intelligence. It said agreements signed during the visit cover migration and mobility, research, and technology transfer.
News18 reported that Parmelin, on a three-day visit at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's invitation, described the trip as meant to strengthen cooperation. He told the outlet that exchange of financial-account information had been smooth since the first exchange in 2019.
The PIB note is an official account of the host government's remarks and does not independently list the text of the new agreements. The visit continues through 7 October.
