Supreme Court justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered an arrest warrant for former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro and cancelled his Brazilian passports after a four-year, two-month sentence became final. Bolsonaro is in the United States.
Supreme Court justice Alexandre de Moraes on Thursday ordered an arrest warrant for former federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro and the cancellation of his Brazilian passports, Agencia Brasil reported. The order follows a sentence of four years and two months for coercion in the course of proceedings, in a case tied to US tariffs on Brazilian exports.
Moraes declared the criminal case final, closing further appeals. Last month the court's First Panel rejected a public-defender appeal to annul the conviction, Agencia Brasil said. In June the panel had sentenced Bolsonaro, initially under a semi-open regime, Courthouse News reported.
Bolsonaro has lived in the United States since 2025. He is the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro and the brother of presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro. Agencia Brasil said he is unlikely to serve the sentence while abroad and that a US extradition request would be difficult.
If he returns, the Federal Police would execute the warrant. Courthouse News quoted a lawyer saying police cannot refuse a judicial order.
Thursday's step is enforcement of an existing sentence, not a new trial. No extradition filing was reported.
