Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he has completed 25 years as a head of government, counting from his oath as Gujarat chief minister on 7 October 2001.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked 25 years as a head of government on Wednesday, counting from his oath as chief minister of Gujarat on 7 October 2001. Mint reported that he spoke at the Seva Jyoti programme at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.

Modi said he had completed 25 years of continuously serving as head of government and called it a blessing of the people. He said that when he took the Gujarat oath he had not imagined this milestone would arrive.

He repeated goals including a developed India by 2047, self-reliance, a global manufacturing hub, hosting the Olympics and stepping into space, and said those aims will be met. Mint presented the lines as quotations from the speech.

The event is a political anniversary, not a new policy announcement. No bill, budget figure or appointment was attached to the remarks in the Mint account.
