The British and German leaders said in Berlin that they had finalised ratification of the 2025 Kensington Treaty and set work on an industrial tech corridor, hybrid threats and space.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Chancellor Friedrich Merz finalised ratification of the Kensington Treaty on Thursday by exchanging documents in Berlin, a joint UK-Germany statement said. The treaty was signed in London in July 2025 and covers the breadth of the bilateral relationship.
The leaders also agreed an industrial tech corridor meant to link AI and critical-technology scale-ups with industrial demand, starting with AI and high-value industrial uses. A first roundtable of prime-company chief executives, AI scale-ups and officials is planned later in the autumn.
On security, the statement said the two countries will deepen a counter-hybrid partnership covering democratic resilience, critical infrastructure and the ability to monitor and respond to hybrid threats.
On space, they intend to work toward a memorandum of understanding for UK-German government consultations in early 2027. Near-term work includes launch and access to space, including SaxaVord Spaceport, and closer cooperation on space security and defence.
The row is filed under Germany because the exchange took place in Berlin. The same statement is a UK government release. No parliamentary vote after the exchange was described in the text.
