Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Prime Minister Andy Burnham finalised ratification of the Kensington Treaty by exchanging documents in Berlin on 8 October, a joint UK-Germany statement said. The treaty was signed in London in July 2025 and covers the bilateral relationship.
The same statement set out an Industrial Tech Corridor to link AI and critical-technology firms with industrial demand, starting with AI and high-value industrial uses. A first roundtable of prime-company chief executives, AI scale-ups and officials is planned for later this autumn.
They also agreed a counter-hybrid-threat partnership covering infrastructure protection and monitoring, and said they intend to deepen space cooperation. A memorandum of understanding is aimed at UK-German government consultations in early 2027. In the nearer term they cited launch cooperation, including SaxaVord Spaceport.
Nhan Dan's Friday brief reported the same Berlin meeting and the formalised ratification, with cooperation on technology, space and security. The joint statement is the primary account.
No new defence-spending figure was included in the published milestones.
