Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu told the country France will make 10 million barrels of diesel from strategic reserves available to distributors which he said should cut pump prices. School responses were deferred to later this month.
Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu used a Wednesday evening address to pair a fuel measure with a slower reply to school protests POLITICO reported from Paris. He said France would make 10 million barrels of diesel from strategic reserves available to distributors as part of a G7 decision last Friday to release reserves. He said the extra supply would lower diesel prices by 0.12 to 0.18 euros a litre.
Lecornu said anger among young people did not come out of nowhere. He said the first policy responses on run-down schools substitute teachers and schedules would come later this month after the government reviews submissions on a public platform opened on Tuesday.
Police put Tuesday's marches at 256000 people and organisers at 450000 POLITICO reported. Unions teachers and left-wing parties joined high-school students. Online calls for a Yellow Jackets-style protest on October 17 have followed the fuel-price jump tied to the war in Iran.
The diesel release is a new operational pledge on top of earlier policing steps. The price effect Lecornu cited is his claim not a measured pump-price change. No delivery schedule for the 10 million barrels was in the POLITICO account.
