External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar told the Munich Leaders Meeting in New Delhi that a chosen repositioning has made the United States a lonelier power and that China's rise is driving sharp competition.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Sunday that the international landscape is marked by a radical repositioning of the United States and the rise of China, speaking at the Munich Leaders Meeting in New Delhi.

According to The Print, which cited ANI, Jaishankar said the U.S. shift was a posture of choice and that Washington had, in a way, deliberately become a lonelier power. He described China as a country that sees itself as unique, and said the world was looking at very sharp competition.

He added that the competition was not limited to the United States and China and had led to the weaponization of leverage that countries hold. The Statesman reported the same core remarks from the Sunday meeting.

Jaishankar also said India-China relations were better than a year earlier, linking that change to an easing of the border standoff and repeating that the state of the border determines the state of the relationship.

The meeting included Munich Security Conference president Wolfgang Ischinger and German foreign office state secretary Bernhard Kotsch, The Print reported.
