Israel election leaves Netanyahu bloc short of majority with 53 seats as Arab parties surge

With most regular ballots counted from the October 27 election, Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc holds 53 seats, Gadi Eisenkot’s opposition 48, and Arab parties a record 19, leaving no side with a governing majority.

Israel’s Central Elections Committee reported that with roughly 85–88 percent of regular ballots counted from the October 27 vote, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing and religious bloc holds 53 seats in the 120-member Knesset.

The opposition bloc led by Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar party has 48 seats, while Arab-led parties have surged to 19 seats combined. Neither main bloc has the 61 seats needed for a majority.

Likud is the largest party with about 26 seats, followed by Yashar with 21. Turnout reached 77.7 percent, the highest in more than two decades.

The figures come from successive CEC updates reported by the Times of Israel, Jerusalem Post and other outlets; final results including double-envelope ballots are still pending and could shift a seat or two.

The outcome leaves Netanyahu short of his previous coalition strength and forces negotiations that may depend on Arab parties or new elections. Official results are expected by early November.
