India and Pakistan each summoned the other's diplomat after the Border Security Force said it killed two Pakistani men who tried to cross the International Border in Punjab's Tarn Taran district.

India and Pakistan summoned each other's diplomats on Saturday after a fatal shooting on the International Border in Punjab. The Hindu reported that the Border Security Force said two Pakistani men were killed while trying to infiltrate through the border in Tarn Taran district.

Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned India's charge d'affaires in Islamabad to protest. Islamabad described the dead men as unarmed civilians, The Hindu reported.

Later on Saturday, India summoned Pakistan's charge d'affaires in New Delhi. The Indian side rejected Pakistan's statement and protested what it called continued facilitation of illegal cross-border infiltration from Pakistan.

The accounts conflict on whether the men were infiltrators or civilians. Neither side's casualty claim was independently reconstructed in the digest used here.

No further official timetable for talks was reported in that account. The diplomatic exchanges themselves were the confirmed development.
