The International Criminal Court unsealed warrants for Taliban education minister Habibullah Agha and higher education minister Neda Mohammad Nadeem over alleged gender-based persecution.
The International Criminal Court unsealed arrest warrants on 5 October for Taliban education minister Habibullah Agha and higher education minister Neda Mohammad Nadeem, AFP reported via France 24.
Prosecutors accuse the two of the crime against humanity of gender-based persecution in Afghanistan, tied to the ICC investigation into the country. The court did not, in the report reviewed, say either man was in custody.
The Taliban have barred most girls from secondary school and restricted women in universities since returning to power. The warrants focus on the ministers responsible for those education systems rather than on battlefield conduct.
ICC warrants do not automatically produce arrests. Enforcement depends on states parties and on whether the suspects travel to a country willing to detain them.
The Taliban had not issued a response in the AFP account cited. Any surrender, travel ban or formal rejection would be a later development.
