Cornell's faculty senate has noticed a no-confidence resolution in the central administration, including President Michael Kotlikoff, over the university's handling of a 2024 sexual-assault lawsuit.

Cornell University's faculty senate has noticed a vote of no confidence in the central administration over its handling of sexual-assault allegations, The Independent reported on Tuesday.

The resolution, noticed late Monday, says the faculty senate has no confidence in the ability of the central administration to address the ongoing crisis of sexual assault at Cornell. It covers President Michael Kotlikoff and other senior officials. A no-confidence vote cannot by itself remove them.

The move follows a lawsuit by a former student identified as Jane Doe. The filing alleges that seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity drugged and raped her over several hours at a house party on October 19, 2024. Those claims are allegations in a civil filing.

Associate music professor Ariana Kim, a faculty senate member, told The Independent the vote was meant to signal that faculty do not believe the administration is fit to run the institution. The paper said thousands of students and faculty gathered on campus on Monday and marched to an administrative building.

The senate had not yet held the vote in the account published Tuesday. The university's response to the resolution was not included in that report.
