TurkStat said annual consumer inflation was 29.73 percent in September, below a 30.3 percent market expectation, with prices up 1.84 percent on the month.

Turkey's annual consumer inflation slowed to 29.73 percent in September from 31.51 percent in August, the Turkish Statistical Institute said on Monday. Anadolu Agency reported the reading was below a market expectation of 30.3 percent. Consumer prices rose 1.84 percent from August.

Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices fell 0.20 percent on the month, Anadolu said. Transport prices rose 2.79 percent and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels rose 2.71 percent. Transport added 0.49 percentage point to the monthly rate and housing 0.33 point, while food reduced it by 0.05 point.

On an annual basis, Anadolu reported food and non-alcoholic beverages up 27.62 percent, transport up 35.10 percent and housing up 39.99 percent. Those groups contributed 6.73, 5.96 and 4.84 percentage points to the annual rate. Trading Economics, citing TurkStat, also recorded an easing in food, transport and clothing inflation and a rise in housing and utilities.

The core C index, which excludes energy, food and non-alcoholic beverages, alcoholic drinks, tobacco and gold, rose 28.70 percent on the year and 2.14 percent on the month, Anadolu said. The B index rose 29 percent annually and 2.01 percent monthly.

The release is the official September CPI print. Anadolu did not report a central-bank decision tied to the figures on Monday. Trading Economics noted the print was the lowest annual rate since November 2021 and said it strengthened market expectations of a rate cut later in October; that expectation is a market reading, not an announced policy move.
