President Trump said Russia will immediately supply more than 300000 metric tons of diesel followed by further amounts, and the Treasury issued a temporary license easing sanctions until April 2027.

President Donald Trump said on Friday he reached an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin for Russia to supply diesel fuel to the United States and global markets. Trump stated that more than 300000 metric tons would be supplied immediately, another 500000 tons in November, and 1 million tons shortly thereafter, with additional amounts depending on the condition of Russian refineries.

The US Treasury Department issued a temporary general license authorizing transactions involving Russian diesel fuel until 7 April 2027. The move reverses years of pressure on Russian energy exports related to the war in Ukraine and comes as US diesel prices stand near $6.28 per gallon according to AAA.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized the decision as a gift to Putin that would prolong the war. Energy analysts noted the initial volumes equal roughly a day and a half of US diesel demand and are unlikely to produce large price drops.

The Kremlin confirmed Russia reaffirmed its readiness to supply oil and petroleum products. Putin’s envoy Kirill Dmitriev welcomed the cooperation. The announcement followed a phone call between the two leaders.

No deliveries have been confirmed as completed. Further volumes remain subject to refinery conditions and the temporary license.
