The Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee began a meeting set to end on 7 October. The repo rate on the RBI site remains 5.25 percent after four holds.

The Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee began a three-day meeting on Monday, with a decision due on Wednesday 7 October, The Hindu BusinessLine reported.

The RBI website listed the policy repo rate at 5.25 percent, the standing deposit facility at 5.00 percent and the marginal standing facility and bank rate at 5.50 percent. BusinessLine said the committee has held the repo rate at 5.25 percent for four meetings after cumulative cuts of 125 basis points in 2025.

BusinessLine said mounting inflation risks and higher crude prices have strengthened expectations of the first hike since 2023. It reported Brent crude near 101.26 dollars a barrel at the time of its story. Union Bank of India, cited by BusinessLine, expects a 25-basis-point increase in October and further hikes in fiscal 2027 that could take the repo rate to 5.75-6.00 percent.

EY, also cited by BusinessLine, said the committee would weigh a recent 25-basis-point US Federal Reserve hike, India's growth outlook, wholesale and consumer inflation, and broad money growth. Those are analyst views, not an RBI signal.

The central bank had not announced a decision when these reports were filed. Markets will get the outcome on 7 October.
