The federal statistics office said construction drove the monthly gain, while car output fell 5.4 percent and energy-intensive branches slipped 0.5 percent.
German industrial production rose 2.0 percent in August from July on a seasonally and calendar-adjusted basis, the Federal Statistical Office said on Wednesday. Output was 2.3 percent higher than in August 2025 on a calendar-adjusted basis. July was revised to a 1.2 percent monthly decline.
Construction accounted for most of the gain, up 9.3 percent on the month. Within construction, specialised activities and building completion rose 13.1 percent. Machinery production rose 5.3 percent, the German-language release said.
Car industry output fell 5.4 percent. Destatis cited the auto industry association VDA, which attributed part of the drop to plant holidays that fell more heavily in August this year than last. Industry excluding energy and construction rose 0.6 percent. Capital goods rose 1.2 percent and consumer goods 0.6 percent, while intermediate goods fell 0.2 percent.
Energy-intensive branches fell 0.5 percent on the month and 2.1 percent from a year earlier. Over June to August they were 2.9 percent lower than in the previous three months.
The figures are provisional. Destatis did not publish a policy response with the release.
