The Commission said it disbursed 1.24 billion euros from the defence portion of the Ukraine Support Loan for drones, interceptors, drone ammunition and missiles made by Ukrainian entities.
The European Commission said on Thursday it had disbursed 1.24 billion euros under the defence component of the 90 billion euro Ukraine Support Loan. The funding covers drones, drone interceptors, drone ammunition and missiles manufactured by Ukrainian entities, the Commission's defence industry directorate said.
Commission president Ursula von der Leyen said Russia was continuing a deliberate strategy of terror and trying to make daily life unbearable for Ukrainians. She said the disbursement would help strengthen Ukraine's defence industry and its ability to defend itself, and to protect people and infrastructure.
The loan has an indicative split of 60 billion euros for defence and 30 billion euros for budgetary assistance over 2026 and 2027. The Commission said 28.3 billion euros are planned for disbursement in 2026 to support Ukraine's defence industrial capacity. Further defence disbursements are planned in the coming weeks.
Euronews reported that Ukrainian prime minister Sergii Koretskyi welcomed the allocation and said it would go to urgent defence needs. That comment is from Euronews, not from the Commission release. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, also cited by Euronews after strikes in the Chernihiv region and in Dnipro and Kremenchuk, said air-defence packages were a vital necessity.
The new fact is the disbursement itself. The Commission did not list individual contracts or delivery dates.
