Treasurer Jim Chalmers said he would travel to Japan on Sunday for the first Australia-Japan Finance Ministerial Dialogue with Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama, focused on investment and strategic financing.
Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers said he would travel to Japan on Sunday for talks with Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama in the first of an annual Australia-Japan Finance Ministerial Dialogue, Reuters reported.
Chalmers said the main purpose was to discuss investment opportunities, strategic financing and broader international engagement, and to progress a deal to boost investment cooperation.
Japan was Australia's fourth-largest foreign investor in 2024, with investments valued at 282.9 billion Australian dollars, about 196.7 billion U.S. dollars, according to the government figures cited by Reuters.
Chalmers said the two countries face similar pressures from global uncertainty, including higher energy prices feeding inflation and higher bond yields weighing on budgets.
While in Japan he also planned to meet more than 30 chief executives and business leaders to present Australia as an investment destination.
