Catalan authorities said two people died and one person was missing after heavy rain, a red alert and transport disruption around Barcelona.
Two people died and another was missing after heavy rain and flooding in Catalonia, Reuters reported on Sunday. Catalan leader Salvador Illa said a man died after a wall collapsed in Tordera, north of Barcelona.
Firefighters said a second person died in Montornes del Valles. Emergency services were searching for a missing person in Pineda de Mar, about 52 kilometres north of Barcelona.
Catalan authorities issued a red alert and urged people to stay inside from 8 p.m. on Saturday until 2 p.m. on Sunday, warning that a weather system they called a mini-hurricane could hit the northeast, with more heavy rain forecast.
La Vanguardia reported cancelled or delayed flights at Barcelona airport, Reuters said. Local trains were disrupted, shops closed early, football matches were called off and a performance of Verdi's Aida at Barcelona's Liceu was cancelled.
Reuters did not report a revised death toll beyond the two confirmed deaths. The search in Pineda de Mar was the outstanding emergency step in the Sunday account.
