Publisher HarperCollins said Jeffrey Archer died suddenly and peacefully at home on Monday, a day before the global release of his final novel, Adam and Eve.
Bestselling British author Jeffrey Archer died on Monday at 86, the Associated Press reported. HarperCollins said he died suddenly and peacefully at his home, a day before the global release of his final novel, Adam and Eve.
Archer's political career in the Conservative Party included appointment to the House of Lords in 1992 by Prime Minister John Major. It later collapsed after a perjury conviction.
HarperCollins said he spent 14 years and five months on Britain's Sunday Times bestseller lists and more than five years on The New York Times lists, and sold 300 million books worldwide.
Archer had described Adam and Eve, a love story and class commentary set against war, as the most satisfying thing he had written, the publisher said.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dame Mary Archer, their two sons, two granddaughters and three grandsons, according to HarperCollins.
