Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields have reunited as Dead Man’s Bones for “Lost in the Night,” their first new song in 17 years, released with a black-and-white video.

Dead Man’s Bones—the musical partnership of actor Ryan Gosling and screenwriter Zach Shields—have returned with “Lost in the Night,” their first new song since the duo’s self-titled 2009 debut. Stereogum reported the release on October 27, and the band’s label, ANTI- Records, lists the single as released on October 26.

The song arrives with a black-and-white music video starring Noah Jupe and Rain Spencer. The video gives the comeback a visual companion rather than leaving it as a stand-alone streaming release, and the timing places the track in the Halloween season that has helped keep the group’s older music in circulation.

The duo tried recording in several Los Angeles studios before settling on a farm outside the city, where they recorded the track in a day using two guitars, two drum machines and two synthesizers, according to the label. Longtime collaborator Tim Anderson produced the single.

Dead Man’s Bones built its original sound around indie rock, gothic folk, vintage rock-and-roll and doo-wop, with the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir appearing on the 2009 album. The long gap makes “Lost in the Night” a genuine return rather than a routine follow-up, although the label has not announced a new album on the cited release page.
