The federal statistics office said production rose 2.0 percent from July and 2.3 percent from a year earlier. Construction rose 9.3 percent, while car output fell 5.4 percent.
German industrial production rose 2.0 percent in August from July on a seasonally and calendar-adjusted basis, the Federal Statistical Office said on Wednesday. Output was 2.3 percent higher than in August 2025 after calendar adjustment. The July figure was revised to a 1.2 percent monthly decline.
Destatis said the August rise was driven mainly by construction, up 9.3 percent on the month. Within construction, specialised activities and building completion rose 13.1 percent. Machinery output rose 5.3 percent. Car production fell 5.4 percent. The auto industry association said part of that drop reflected factory holidays that fell more heavily in August this year than last year.
Production excluding energy and construction rose 0.6 percent. Capital goods rose 1.2 percent and consumer goods 0.6 percent, while intermediate goods fell 0.2 percent. Energy-intensive branches fell 0.5 percent on the month and were 2.1 percent lower than a year earlier.
The three-month comparison showed energy-intensive output 2.9 percent lower from June to August than in the previous three months. The figures are provisional.
Destatis did not attach a policy response to the release. The next monthly production report will cover September.
